Historic Hydrology of St. Louis

Historic Hydrology of St. Louis

This is an interactive map of historic streams in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, United States of America.  The streams were traced from a collection of historic maps of the St. Louis area dating back to the early settlement of the city by staff at East-West Gateway Council of Governments.  The data is only as complete and accurate as the historic maps that were used

The source data was compiled by East-West Gateway Council of Governments from these historic maps:

"City of St. Louis, Missouri and City of Chicago, Illinois" published by J. H. Colton and Co., 1855.
"City of St. Louis" published by Julius Hutawa, 1860.
"Edward's Great West and Her Commercial Metropolis" published at the Office of Edwards' Monthly, 1860
"Gould's Official Map of [the] City of St. Louis" published by Gould Directory Co., 1880.
"Barney's Indexed Map of St. Louis" published by Higgins & Co., 1902.
"Hammond's 8 x 11 Map of St. Louis" published by C.S. Hammond & Co., 1903.
"St. Louis Quadrangle, Missouri – Illinois" published by U.S. Geological Survey, 1903.
"City of St. Louis" published by U.S. Geological Survey, 1904.

This is a portfolio project initiated by RiverWest Group to demonstrate some of the capabilities of Leaflet.

The open source mapping library, Leaflet, was utilized for the interactive map.
